I think at midnight I will be "preinscribed" to the master's degree that you need in my neck of the woods to teach secondary school. I think I'll have a decent break until I start classes.
Also finally today I had some energies to debug issues provisioning Raspberry Pi OS using cloud-init and setting up Wireguard. I had made some progress doing everything headless- it's pretty cool, you can just modify cloud-init config directly on the MicroSD card and do anything without ever having to plug in a screen.
However, configuring Wireguard replicating the configuration on other hosts already on the VPN dropped all network connectivity. And that's a pain to figure out without physical access!
It took some time to a) have my Micro HDMI adapter b) be on an appropriate lab environment c) have energies, but today I figured out that while other hosts were happy with both the local network interface and the Wireguard interface having the same IP address and netmask, this system didn't. Of course that's obviously wrong- I guess the Wireguard interface should be a /32, but I got it working by hacking a route removal because fixing things properly required changes to my infra-as-code and I didn't want to touch the rest of the VPN hosts, as getting physical access if I mess it up is a pain.
So in theory, this weekend I should be able to drop the Raspberry in its proper destination and finish setting it up. Which is good, because this is my brother's network, in which I made a PLC a SPoF and hopefully now a Raspberry with a spare unit will replace it as a SPoF.
